One of the main reasons for it being a hot choice was its proximity to Mumbai. Goa has a lot to offer especially the beaches are a fun place to hang out when you are there. The Nightlife too is amazing with most places open till the wee hours of the morning.

By road to the distance is approximately 650 km which is roughly around 9 to 12 hours depending upon how many halts you would like to take. There are also several Bus services that take you there. A train is also an option provided you book well in advance.

However, the main attraction of this tiny state has always been cheap Booze and good food. The first choice is always seafood. Lots have changed in the recent few years though. Goa has now turned out to be an expensive destination. Hotel rates are skyrocketing, travel within the city or village which was anyways expensive has also seen a steep rise. Beaches have become very crowded. A lot of hawkers selling their merchandise haunt you even further.

People are choosing Malvan, Sindhudurg, and even Thailand to be their preferred holiday destination. In the past year, Goa has seen a steep fall of 40% of tourists from Mumbai. That itself is a significant number. With cheap airfares and very similar scenery Thailand has quickly become Mumbaikar’s favourite holiday destination. What it also offers is an International Holiday destination.

There are reports that also suggest that Goa is also losing its major share of foreign tourists. Foreign Tourists to are choosing alternate destinations. Is it losing its share of the Tourism business? It’s hard to say as there are still loads of people going there for a vacation. The popularity of a place like Goa will not die down anytime soon.
