BMW has launched its all-new Z4 on the Indian roads at a price tag of around Rs. 65 Lakhs ex-showroom. The Z4 is a roadster convertible which has been in existence in the Indian market for quite some time now. Its predecessor the Z3 was also seen on Indian Roads. The new Z4 was jointly developed with Toyota. The Toyota Supra and the BMW Z4 share the same engine. But Toyota Supra is not planned to launch in India.
The BMW Z4 will be available in India in two engine variants the first being a two-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that would generate 194 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque. With so much power it can reach a speed of 0-100 kmph in 6.6 seconds. The next variant is much more powerful. It has a three-liter petrol engine which can churn out a whopping 335 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. It will also take you to speed of 100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds. Both share the same transmission an 8 speed Steptronic Sport Transmission.
The New BMW Z4 is quite an eyecatcher but how many will India buy
The styling is also quite striking. The front grille is not the typical kidney design that BMW is famous for. It’s a wide kidney grille that extends from headlamp to headlamp. The headlamps are also all LED with a smoked finish. The tail lights are also wrap around LEDs. If your still not satisfied with the looks BMW offers a lot of packages that are optional that can increase the style quotient of the Car.
Although the Car is absolutely fantastic it is highly questionable whether it will do well in the Indian market. India is a country that is extremely hot. You would like to be in an airconditioned set up rather than an open top. Moreover, the Monsoon season may not make an Open top car like the Z4 a smart choice. Even though it does have a retractable roof. India has never been the market for Coupe and Roadsters. So with this new launch let us see if the dynamics will change.
