The theme of Underworld never ceases to excite and stimulate our filmmakers. In the last few years, we’ve seen a plethora of adoptions and adaptations. The recent filmmaker to join the bandwagon is Apoorva Lakhia. He has undertaken the responsibility to project the life of the Underworld Kingpin and his sister, Haseena Parkar. This role will be essayed by Shraddha Kapoor and Dawood is being impersonated by Kapoor’s real-life brother, Siddhanth Kapoor.

As far as the first still from the film is concerned, Shraddha Kapoor looks fierce and intense. With a certain fearlessness in her eyes and menace on her face, it seems she’s all set to dazzle in her maiden eponymous release. Too early to say the same for Kapoor the brother, but this should be a game-changer for him too.

The stakes are high, both for the actors and the directors. Lakhia, who’s last outing Zanjeer (2013) bombed at the box-office, has a lot riding on his shoulders. The leading lady, meanwhile, makes her foray into the word of the Underworld. Known for cheerful, chirpy and piquant roles, this could be the one film of her career that could soar and consolidate her position in the industry as a dependable actor.

Siddhanth Kapoor, however, is the actor who has the biggest role to essay. It’s not easy to portray the nuances and nonchalance of the Kingpin. So far, we’ve seen fictional portraits of Ibrahim in films like Once Upon a time in Mumbai (2010), Shootout at Wadala (2013), D-Day (2013) and the recently released, Coffee with D. All the actors in the aforementioned films depicted the gangster with a certain flamboyance and tenacity.

Will Kapoor come close ? Will this be a worthy gangster drama ? Will this be a game-changer for Shraddha Kapoor ? And will Apoorva Lakhia finally deliver a hit?
All questions shall be answered on the 14th of July, when we meet Haseena and Dawood at the cinemas.
