Filmmaker Kabir Khan recently tweeted a picture of his with none other than the KING KHAN. With numerous hushed whispers and tittle-tattles surrounding SRK’s cameo in the Salman Khan starer TUBELIGHT, the news was ultimately asserted by the director. The internet almost broke after the announcement of this gigantic news and we couldn’t help but revisit some of the most celebrated cameos in Hindi films in the last decade.
Cameos in Hindi films aren’t always mere fleeting encounters with the audiences. Many may have evaporated from their consciousness but some of them have managed to successfully acquire the stature of IMMORTAL.
Here are the 6 most memorable cameos and you all are free to disagree-
6. SALMAN KHAN – AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI (2009)
Who would’ve thought one would get to see Salman,Katrina and Ranbir in one frame? Although, shrouded in secrecy till the release, the audiences always knew about Bhai’s cameo and it was unquestionably one of the biggest highlights of the film.Cleverly written and hilariously performed by Salman,it can still crack you up,whenever you watch it on TV.
5. AMITABH BACHCHAN AND JAYA BACHCHAN- KI AND KA (2016)
One of the only redeeming qualities of the film was to watch Big B and Mrs.B play themselves, without any inhibitions or awkwardness. Jaya Bachchan complaining how things could’ve been different, had she not sacrificed her illustrious career, left the audiences in splits. This was a gem of a cameo that made the experience of watching this film slightly more tolerable.
4. AMITABH BACHCHAN- ENGLISH VINGLISH (2012)
Giving Hindi cinema one of the most endearing and memorable special appearances in recent times,Bachchan proved to the world he isn’t dependent on a full fledged role to stir the viewers. Seated next to Sridevi on the flight to the US,his brief but brilliant performance made us crave for such passengers. How we wish we had such company!!
3. SHAH RUKH KHAN-LUCK BY CHANCE (2009)
Tying at the 3rd spot, this underrated gem had SRK portraying himself. Fresh off the success of his debut film,Farhan Akhtar’s character,Vikram, chances upon a conversation with the star ,which ultimately reshapes his life. Explaining to him how stardom is like a cocktail that could easily get to your head and to never forget the people who stood by you, when you were nothing,SRK gave us a crucial life lesson.
It wasn’t just a cameo by a star,it was an appearance by an actor, who never took his stardom too seriously.
2. RAJNIKANTH-RA.ONE (2011)
Thalaivaa’s name is enough to generate euphoria and catharsis in the audiences. Although,an underwhelming enterprise in totality,Rajni’s cameo in Ra.One was complete PAISA WASOOL. It only lasted for 15 odd seconds but was enough for the price of your ticket.
Had it lasted longer, people might have even forgotten G.One.
That’s Rajni for you.
1. AKSHAY KUMAR-OM SHANTI OM (2007)
Easily the best thing about the film,Khiladi Kumar’s cameo was said to be more entertaining and thrilling than the entire film. Playing himself to the gallery,Akshay dropped all starry tantrums and was unapologetic-ally unabashed and hilariously over-the-top,once again giving us evidence of his razor-sharp comic timing.
32 stars were employed for one of the songs in the film but AKKI single handedly overshadowed all of them.
Truly a KHILADI.
